Transformation

From this....

To this...

Last week with Finding Water, I didn't manage my artist's date or a walk, so this weeks plan was to kill 2 birds with one stone by taking myself on a walk through Hastings Old Town.

I had also decided to take some of my handspun yarn to Made in Hastings to see what they thought. This is the yarn I spun Monday evening, its 100% merino from the bright batts I made with occasional threads of cut silk waste mixed in.

The lady I spoke to said ''It's like Noro''.

I secretly thought to myself when I finished it, that it's like Noro....Noro without the bits so I'm obviously thrilled that someone else can look at it and see the similarity, because when you sit down to spin you don't really know what the end result will be.

This has to be my favourite so far, I've taken loads of photos because I love the randomness of the colour mix and it just changes at every angle.

Now to my friends, what do you think? and what do the colours remind you of?

I am in love with that wool you've spun up. It's so gorgeous - and the colours are to die for. They remind me of some of the houses we saw in India with insides painted pink and turquoise, Yes, that's it they remind me of India - maybe because we're planning on going in October and it's on my mind. BTW I wish you could come up to me to teach me to spin too (alas Glos is a bit far from you). The reason I started dyeing in the summer was to spin and now I find I'm dyeing and selling instead! Not bad but it just leaves me no time to learn to spin.

I just love those colours. Is it a single or have you plied it? I'd love to be able to spin something like that - but I'm practising so I guess I'll get there eventually! Can you pass on to Simmy who left the last comment, this link to Fiona Nisbet's spinning courses - they're in Ludlow and Shrewsbury, so are quite handy for Glos.

Oh Jo you really are tempting me to start knitting again!

This is beautiful.

It reminds me of mermaids, carnival, Indian turquoise jewelry, coral reefs, bright fish, oh lots...

Lovely.

Wow, that's lovely. Quite honestly, it looks a lot more carefully spun than Noro to me!

It looks like seaweed on rocks, or oil on water...

Oh that is yummy , yummy. I am getting fed up spinning in white at the moment and you have inspired me to dig out some of my bought dyed merino to play with. I was feeling 'blue' today with my spinning as for the life of me I couldn't spin aran weight yarn after spinning fine for so long.
So many thanks Jo for your inspiration; that's what I love about blogging and I don't even have to leave the house :)Keep at it

Oh forgot to say its bound to be softer than Noro too. I was wearing my jumper today made with Noro Silk garden and I thought its still prickly after having a few washes. I would never buy Noro again , but then I did buy it before I could spin

I have actually seen sunsets with every one of those colours in them, seriously. They were breathtaking and so is your yarn and yes, it does look like Noro but I'm thinking, merino, with a bit of silk? It's a huge lot softer...Jo, it truly is beyond lovely.

Candy! Definitely candy, in all forms, sweet and chewy and liqorice and soft and sour and... candy:)

O, Jo. It's so lovely. I wanna turn it over in my hands and feel it's softness, and then look at the colors going in and out of it, and then remark how much better than Noro it is, because, while it has the color thing going, it is so much softer, and thereby infinitely better than Noro. Just beautiful.

I love the third picture down (top one of the grouping). My eyes follow the swirls into the mysterious depths. Very high compliments! Now, will the store owner buy from you?

Ooooh...spring in the gardens in Manito Park in Spokane, when all the new flowers were coming up. And it really does change with different angles. You did so good!

Beautiful I think the colours remind me of an impressionist painting - I can see Monet's garden in there - floweres, grass, water, sunlight flickering through trees.
Simmy - maybe we could get an entire weekend workshop going - I wanna learn to spin too!
