Plying Pains!

This is the Wensleydale Longwool I purchased back in October at Alexandra Palace. It was giving me plying pains, originally I went to make it into a 2 ply but wasn't happy with the way the colours muddled themselves, these first two photos are the reject 2ply yarn.

Kath suggested that I Navaho ply the yarn, this method keeps the colours together, but unfortunately I'm not very good at it so it's a bit over plied, and there are a few lumps and bumps, but it is quite pretty just the same!

Very nice, Jo! I really like the Navajo plying, but haven't tried it yet. :0)

Jo, it's beautiful! ok ok I know I'm not a spinner (yet) and so perhaps I don't know what it is the spinner in you is fretting about....what I see is yarn, the colours are impossibly (in a very good way) soft and delicate and I'm big time charmed!

I am spinning dense, I admit...but I think it looks marvelous. I have to say, the phrase "navajo plying" makes me think of doing terrible mischief to native peoples.....

Just so you know, your post encouraged me to give Navajo plying a shot last night. After several attempts, I don't believe I'm ready.
My stuff looks nothing, and I mean, NOTHING, like your beautiful spinning. First - fabulous color, but really - the plying looks marvelous - I don't see the overspun qualities you're talking about. As soon as I uncoil my right arm from within my overspun madness I'll show you what overspun looks like! Very nice job, Jo.

I like your navajo plied stuff Jo - the colours are yummy and I'm sure you'll find that any lumps and bumps will even out once knitted up. I made a little square swatch of test bits that was my first attempt at Navajo plying and will admit that I'm not aware of any lumps! Anyway will go and double check that but I wouldn't fret!
